Mr Hancock told us a while back there was enough PPE
Perhaps the government should have ‘got credit’ then?
Maybe a ‘clap for the Health Minister’

Instead media probing and pushing on behalf of health staff meant the government has had to admit that was bollocks and lift their game.

... perhaps it has been decided that this is the best way to lift the morale of the civil service?

Re: How long for Boris
How would it lift health professionals' morale if their complaints about insufficient equipment were ignored by the media?

Or is the morale of the Cabinet more important?

Incredible how good this government is at getting offended when people hold it to account.

At least they're good at that.

The source(s) appear to be from number 10 but that is not the issue. It doesn't matter who the sources are; it show that the government were woefully slow at recognising the threat and half asleep at the wheel. It says more about the state of the country's political class in general in that short termism is very much the most important thing and forward planning for anything has gone out of window.
By the way we do not live in a totalitarian state and holding politicians to account is still allowed and is, very much, a good thing.
Intersting that Michael Gove didn't deny one single point made in the article. He probably couldn't.

Sven Roeder 2:23 Sun Apr 19
Re: How long for Boris
Yes perhaps the government does need to take a stronger line on breaches of recommendations
Such as people remaining in their primary residences
Perhaps B Johnson (10 Downing St) & the Queen (Buckingham Palace) could do a joint broadcast.

Re: How long for Boris
Is that the Khan who wasn’t invited to Cobra meetings until mid March?
Presumably it was someone who WAS at those meetings who reported that Boris didn’t appear.
I understand (as per Gove on the Andrew Marr show) that the PM wasn’t due to be at all those meetings.
Which if they were about the virus and thousands dying sounds a little odd.
Cobra meetings are meant to be for major national crisis moments aren’t they?

Re: How long for Boris
Journalist are scum, have been for years.

This is another non story, just like the lack of PPE, Boris missed 5 cobra meeting he wasn’t due to attend any way. Rumour has it’s Khan that’s the leak.

There are other forces at play here, just like the ones who tried to undermine the Brexit result.

The time has come to forget about strong words, the government needs to start dishing out some slaps.

This country is facing its biggest challenge since WW2 and it’s disgusting that there are people who are doing everything to weaken the government, these people are fucking wrong un’s, they are scum.
We should be all pulling together in the same direction, it’s a fucking virus that’s the killer not Boris.

Not once has the media given the government any credit, they have supplied enough ICU beds, they have given business money to help save peoples job, which a lot of very wealthy people and companies have abused but we don’t hear too much about that.

Not once has the media done anything to lift morale, we have enough to worry about without them shit stirring.

Them doing it means it's decent media.

Its an important story and they followed it and printed it.

Need more of that from all sides.

It may come as surprise to people who their have long form media curated by social media but a decent outfit has a variety of voices. I don't know the political affiliation of these guys but I know that one has been nominated for awards for stories investigating Johnson in the past. Good on the Times for hiring him.

What we do about it, probably needs to come later. Resources should be used to look ahead, as I think you intimated.

I got the impression that the reporters researched the facts and wrote them up after which their piece was edited and published in the Sunday Times.

Note how for some reason you are now being encouraged to believe they are Labour Party members behind a story.
